Your place of connection & reconnection

Updated: Nov 17, 2019

We all need a special place or space that helps us connect to our higher selves.

Where's your soul place?

I am finally experiencing an afternoon at my childhood home where I can sit down, listen to the wind in the trees, the wind chime singing and Paul's (my stepfather) bell art ringing.

Breathe it in

There's an army of cat tails swaying in the pond and Habibi, my parent's other rescue dog, is resting as quiet as a cat on my lap. Side note: Habibi means "beloved" and "my darling" in Arabic. Don't you love that? My stepfamily is Arabic, so not only did our holiday meals look a lot different than most, our dog names do too! Ha. Mom is sitting beside me, reading about healthy nuts & oils. The day is perfect- sunny, but slightly cool, almost-autumn air.

I really, really love this place. My soul feels complete here. At ease, connected, peaceful. Do you have a place where you feel this way? And it's not just because this is where I grew up, providing that element of nostalgia (although, it is that too). There's a big, powerful healing energy here. It's in the soil, it's in the trees, it's in the chorus of birds....the wind. It is tangible. The land both takes your breath away and gives your breath back.

Pro tip: go barefoot in your soul place. The magic happens when you take your footwear off and connect with the earth! :) You'll instantly feel more grounded. Earthing (or grounding) has physiological benefits and promotes well-being. Some research says it can help with inflammation, cardiovascular disease, muscle damage, chronic pain, and mood.

Where do you love to take your shoes off most to enjoy the healing gifts of land?

Speaking of magic happening. We hosted a yoga & healing retreat here, at our home, two years ago called "Awakenings." It was the first time my parents (mom and father) were willingly in the same space since as long as I can remember (they divorced when I was a toddler). Can you relate to this? Did you grow up with divorced parents who didn't get along? I felt anxious the morning-of our event, not knowing how or if they'd get along, and not knowing what to expect.

But, the magical part is- decades of old wounds DO want to be healed. Awakenings offered the perfect time and place for it to unfold.

I led a four directions ceremony and yoga classes, my best friend, Jenna, led her Breath of Love experience, Paul facilitated a discussion on expectations, and our musician friend, Colleen brought us together in song, sound, rhythm. All of these practices opened our hearts up for love to pour in, and with the support of the land beneath our feet and bodies, emotional walls were brought down.

If you could heal an old wound, what wound would you heal? Is there a specific relationship you yearn for more peace? Please share with me.

P.s.-check out some photos from Awakenings below :)
